Trouble Shooting Dresden Plate Mini Quilt

So you're going to do it, you're going to make a Dresden Plate mini quilt, let me go over some things that will make it easier for you.

When picking your fabric, it's nice to lay them out and make sure they all play nice together.  It's nice to get a variety of scale, so some small print and some large.  Mix up geometric with organics with solids.  If you're stuck on a fabric choice, go with black.  It ties in with almost everything and adds a nice visual punch.

If you're not feeling a fabric...go with your instincts.  It's much better to keep trying until you get something you like, than settling and never really liking what you chose.

The blocks don't have to line up in the middle, as long as your circle is big enough to cover any gaps, you can go with a piece of fabric that's maybe less than 6" long.  For instance, the navy blue in this picture...was a bit longer than 5", but far from the 6" you're supposed to have...but I liked it, so I went with it.

If you're wild and you punch through your stitching when making the point, don't fret, just make another stitch line 1/8" down.  See a couple pictures above, you're not going to ruin your Dresden if they're not all the same length in the middle....it's going to get covered up.

I like to repeat a couple of my fabric choices throughout the Dresden, but I like my middles to be completely different.  I don't want my middle to run into one of the spindles.

Thanks for reading!
